In Dnipro, there are proposals to reduce evening traffic jams approaching the New Bridge from the city center, reports "Vedomo" citing KP "DniproDorService" of the Dnipro City Council.

"To achieve this, it is sufficient to simply PROHIBIT left turns from the middle (second) lane onto Kharkivska Street, at the point where it transitions into Magdeburg Rights Street. The prohibition scheme is depicted in the screenshot. The idea is quite straightforward. In the evening, a large flow of vehicles travels in the left lane of Kharkivska Street, and the traffic light at the intersection with Lipinsky Street is unable to accommodate the entire flow. This leads to a traffic jam in the left lane. Consequently, some drivers, in an effort to avoid waiting a full minute in the jam, overtake everyone in the middle lane and turn left from there, merging into the traffic jam," the message states.

Road workers note that this behavior completely blocks movement in the middle lane from the direction of Magdeburg Rights Street and the New Bridge.

"The right lane remains clear for movement, allowing drivers to maneuver through it. However, this changes as soon as a second vehicle appears, also wanting to turn left from the middle lane. The street becomes completely blocked because cars parked on the right near the café occupy almost the entire right lane. When turning left onto Kharkivska Street, the flow from two lanes merges into one, since the parked vehicles beyond the turn occupy the entire right lane, further exacerbating the traffic jam. Vehicles in the opposite lane are also blocked, which worsens the situation," the authors of the proposal point out.

According to them, the idea to prohibit left turns from the middle lane would transform the traffic jam into a light slowdown, allowing for transit through the center to be twice as fast.
