Zelensky: I wouldn't want our people to walk the streets with guns during peacetime.

Without effective security guarantees, Ukrainians will be forced to remain in a constant state of readiness to repel new aggression from Russia. This statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with journalist Cecilia Sali for the newspaper Il Foglio.
Зеленский: Я не хочу, чтобы наши граждане в мирное время просто гуляли по улицам с автоматами.

Excerpts from the interview on January 25 were published on Facebook by Zelensky.

When discussing how to stop the aggressor country, Russia, Zelensky emphasized that this can only be achieved with a large number of allies. And if the United States is not among them, Ukraine should not reduce its army but rather increase it, as Europe alone will not be sufficient.

"What guarantees do we have? I wouldn't want our people to simply walk the streets with automatic weapons in peacetime. Understanding that at any moment someone from Russia could arrive with tanks, armored vehicles, or missiles could strike," Zelensky stressed. "I would like us to develop to the fullest. […] So that people, millions of Ukrainians, want to return home. And for that, we need security guarantees. I believe that Europe alone is not enough; I think that security guarantees should be Europe plus the USA."
