President Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet made a decision on whether to sign the tax increase bill. The deadlines for both signing and vetoing have already passed.
This was reported by BBC Ukraine citing sources in the President's Office.
Earlier, the head of the relevant parliamentary committee, Daniil Getmantsev, expressed hope that Zelensky would sign the law: "I believe the law will be signed. As for when, that is a question I cannot answer."
Experts believe that the delay in signing is likely related to the authorities' hopes for an alternative source of funding for the state budget—receiving funds from seized Russian assets. These can be used for any needs, including military ones, unlike other international assistance.
Recall that the tax increase bill was adopted in the second reading on October 10. It includes, among other things, an increase in the military levy. The document was submitted to Zelensky for signing on October 15.
According to "Slovo i Delo," during his presidency, nearly fifty bills have accumulated that are overdue for signing (15 days, as stated in the Constitution). Notably, Zelensky has particularly abused the practice of ignoring bills during the full-scale war.
