On January 30, Military Watch Magazine, citing Russian sources, reported that Russia is allegedly close to commencing serial production of the new "Iskander-1000," which would double the range of the base system to 500 km.
It is said that the introduction of the new variant "Iskander-M" with an extended flight range, along with the medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik," could reduce Russia's dependence on the North Korean KN-23B in the long term.
"The English-language publication that falsely claimed Russia could produce 25 'Oreshnik' missiles each month is now lying about Russia developing a new 'Iskander' capable of flying 1000 km," commented Kovalenko. "The Russians use this publication for such disinformation, hoping to reach an English-speaking audience and that the information will penetrate the Ukrainian information space."
According to the head of the CPD, this "information is not accurate."
"Moreover, due to sanctions, it is technologically challenging for the Russians to produce 'Iskander-M' in general," Kovalenko wrote.
