On January 19, during an evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Shapovalov would lead the Ukrainian team for the "NATO mission to ensure security and prepare for Ukraine" (NSATU). The mission's headquarters is located at the American military base in Wiesbaden, Germany.
