Law enforcement officials have announced charges against two men for the murder of a soldier from the Poltava Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support at a gas station in Pyriatyn.
This information was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General via Telegram.
“Under the procedural guidance of the Lubny District Prosecutor's Office, two individuals – residents of Lubny and Poltava – have been informed of the suspicion,” the statement reads.
One of them is charged with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, intentional murder, and the theft of a firearm accompanied by violence. The other is charged with aiding in the obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Investigators established that on January 31, a resident of Poltava, along with other mobilized individuals escorted by soldiers from the Poltava RTC and SP, was heading to training at a military unit. Intending to evade military service, he called a friend from Lubny several times to inform him of the bus route. When the bus stopped at the gas station, the resident of Lubny shot one of the escorts with a gun. Subsequently, he stole a soldier's automatic rifle and fled with his accomplice.
Several hours later, the suspects were apprehended. During the search, law enforcement officials seized 2 bodies of hand grenades, a hunting rifle, ammunition, a balaclava, and mobile phones from the attacker.
“The physical evidence has been sent for examination. The soldier's automatic rifle was found in a tree plantation where the suspects had discarded it. The pre-trial investigation in the criminal case is ongoing. The question of choosing a preventive measure for the suspects is being resolved,” the prosecutor's office added.
It was previously reported that as a result of a severe injury, the soldier died on the spot.
The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty, called for a strong governmental response to the murders and attacks on the Territorial Centers for Recruitment.
