Trump appointed a former fast-food chain director as the ambassador to the EU.

The new President of the United States, Donald Trump, has appointed former head of the Carl's Jr. fast-food chain in the U.S., Andrew Puzder, as the American ambassador to the European Union. Trump announced this on his social media page X on January 23.
Трамп назначил бывшего директора сети фастфуда послом в ЕС.

"I am pleased to announce that Andrew F. Puzder will be the next U.S. ambassador to the European Union. Andy is a successful attorney, businessman, economic commentator, and author," he wrote.

According to the U.S. president, since 2000, Puzder has served as the CEO of the parent company of the fast-food chains Carl's Jr. and Hardee's.

"During his 17 years as CEO, Andy led the company out of significant financial difficulties, allowing it to survive, become financially secure, and grow. Andy will excel at representing our country's interests in this important region," Trump added.

As reported by Politico, in 2017, Puzder was a candidate for Secretary of Labor but withdrew due to allegations of domestic violence, which his ex-wife later refuted. He also admitted to hiring an undocumented housekeeper, which undermined his support in the Senate.

Since then, Puzder has remained active in the political sphere, supporting Trump and working at the America First Policy Institute. His appointment to the EU is likely to attract criticism due to his past decisions, the publication notes.

Carl's Jr. is an American fast-food restaurant chain with over 3,600 locations in 38 countries around the world. It was founded by Carl Karcher in 1941 and is now a subsidiary of CKE Restaurants.
