"As part of the increase in security assistance announced by President [U.S. Joe] Biden on September 26, aimed at placing Ukraine in the strongest possible position, the Department of Defense has announced additional security aid to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs," the statement reads.
It is noted that this will be the 70th transfer of equipment by the Biden administration from Pentagon stocks to Ukraine since August 2021. This package will provide Ukraine with additional capabilities to address its most urgent needs, including munitions for missile systems, artillery, and anti-tank weapons, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
This package includes:
- munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
- 155 mm and 105 mm artillery ammunition;
- 60 mm and 81 mm mortar rounds;
- unmanned aerial vehicles;
- TOW anti-tank missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
- and other resources.
"The United States will continue to work alongside approximately 50 allies and partners within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and related coalitions to address Ukraine's urgent needs for combat capabilities and protection against Russian aggression," the Pentagon stated.
