The Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz assured that the call to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was necessary.
This is reported by Reuters.
According to the Chancellor, the call to Vladimir Putin was necessary, particularly to dispel the dictator's illusions that the West intends to withdraw support for Ukraine. Scholz also emphasized that given Donald Trump's return to the presidency of the United States, “it would be inappropriate for Washington to maintain regular contacts with Putin while no European leader does.”
The Chancellor also mentioned that the conversation was detailed, and it became clear during the call that Putin has not changed his views on the war in Ukraine.
Recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time in nearly two years on November 15.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the call, describing Scholz's outreach to Putin as a “Pandora's box.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that this conversation does not contribute to achieving a just peace.
