The 22-year-old suspect acted on orders from the aggressor state, Russia, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
The building where she allegedly intended to plant explosives has not been used by the special services since the start of the full-scale invasion. However, a potential explosion could have resulted in significant casualties among pedestrians in the city center, as noted in the report.
"At the scene, a bag was found with a homemade explosive device containing 7 kg of TNT equivalent. Such a charge is sufficient to cause serious damage to the building and inflict fatal injuries on people in the vicinity of the blast's epicenter," the Security Service reported.
At the direction of her Russian handlers, the suspect installed a surveillance camera on the balcony of her rented apartment overlooking the site of the potential terrorist attack to record its aftermath, the case claims. During a search, her phone was seized, which contained correspondence with the occupiers.
The suspect is charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: part 2 of article 111 (high treason committed in a state of martial law), part 1 of article 14, part 2 of article 258 (preparation for a terrorist act committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy), part 1 of article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, military supplies, or explosives).
The court has placed the suspect in custody, and she faces a life sentence.
