The Parliament has allowed the dismissal from service in the event of the death of half-siblings and has also granted the right to deferment for civilians who have been in captivity.
The relevant bills were adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday, November 20.
Thus, the deputies approved amendments to the law "On Military Duty and Military Service." Bill No. 11531 was supported by 308 deputies, as reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram.
This bill restores the right of military personnel to be dismissed from military service due to the death or disappearance of their half-brother or half-sister while participating in combat operations.
As noted in the explanatory note, in August, the Rada provided for deferment from conscription not only for those whose close relatives, including full siblings, but also half-brothers or half-sisters, died or went missing during combat operations.
At the same time, under the mobilization law adopted in April, the death or disappearance of half-brothers and/or half-sisters ceased to be a basis for deferment from conscription.
The Verkhovna Rada also granted the right to deferment for civilians who have been in captivity. Previously, this applied only to military personnel.
Bill No. 12104 was supported by 304 MPs. The document, in particular, eliminates legal uncertainty regarding the grounds for granting deferment from conscription during mobilization for those whose close relatives have died or gone missing.
Recall that, according to the NSDC, Ukraine plans to additionally mobilize another 160 thousand people. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, there are no plans to lower the conscription age.
