The court has sentenced Sergey Batrin, a deputy of the Kereckovsky village council in Transcarpathia, to life imprisonment for carrying out a terrorist attack in the village council building last December.
This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
As it is known, on December 15, 2023, deputy Sergey Batrin detonated three RGD-5 and F-1 hand grenades in the session hall of the village council. As a result of the explosions, 26 individuals were injured, and two of them later died from severe injuries. One man passed away the day after the attack, while the other died a month later.
According to the investigation, the deputy had premeditated the crime. Initially, he used his connections in criminal circles to acquire military grenades, which he then concealed at his home.
On the day of the village council meeting, the deputy brought the grenades, retrieved them from his jacket pockets, and threw them onto the floor of the room, which was almost full of the deputy assembly.
Based on the collected evidence, the court found him guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: part 3 of article 258 (terrorist act resulting in the death of people); part 1 of article 263 (carrying, storing, acquiring explosive devices without the required legal permission).
It is worth noting that after the grenade explosion, Batrin himself was in intensive care. Later, the deputy was arrested and faced charges of committing a terrorist act.
