"He chooses Moscow." Zelensky responded to Fico, who labeled him as Slovakia's "enemy."

On January 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is "choosing Moscow" over the United States and other partners that could provide his country with gas.
"Зеленский ответил Фицо, который назвал его 'врагом' Словакии, заявив: 'Он выбирает Москву'."

Zelensky wrote a post after Fico labeled him as a "foe" of Slovakia on January 28, stating that he "harms" the country due to the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory. According to Fico, Zelensky has no choice but to talk about some gas from Azerbaijan. The Slovak Prime Minister reiterated that Bratislava views the "most realistic" option as the resumption of Russian gas transit – for instance, if it were to purchase gas at the Russian-Ukrainian border, "and this gas would be transported as Slovak through Ukrainian territory."

"For the attention of the current Prime Minister of Slovakia. A few days ago, President [Donald] Trump made a strong decision that would significantly increase the export of American LNG, particularly to Europe. This is what is necessary for security and stability – more energy resources from partners for Europe," Zelensky wrote. "American LNG must be paid for with money, while Russian gas requires payment not only in money but also in independence and sovereignty."

According to the Ukrainian President, many in Europe have already gone through this and chose to preserve their independence and sovereignty.

"But not Mr. Fico. He chooses Moscow over America and other partners who can supply his country with gas on commercial terms. This is his mistake. Everyone in Europe needs to be forward-thinking and develop relationships that strengthen our nations," Zelensky concluded.
