NATO plans to propose an Arctic expansion to Trump to thwart his ambitions regarding Greenland, according to media reports.

NATO is set to propose a significant expansion of its military presence in the Arctic to U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at alleviating tensions surrounding Greenland, which is owned by Denmark. This information was reported by the German publication Handelsblatt, citing the dpa agency.
СМИ сообщают, что НАТО намеревается предложить Трампу расширение Альянса в Арктике, чтобы остановить его амбиции по захвату Гренландии.

The Alliance believes that this way they can meet the interests of American security, which Trump cites as his reasoning for wanting to purchase Greenland from Denmark.

The U.S., as a NATO member, could also participate in enhancing the bloc's presence in the Arctic and countering the activities of the aggressor nations, Russia and China, according to the statement.

According to sources within NATO, Trump is currently discussing this prospect in unofficial conversations. The basis for increasing the North Atlantic Alliance's presence in the Far North could be existing defense plans that emerged back in 2023 but have since been classified as "secret," reports Handelsblatt.
