It has been reported that the MP "systematically engaged in information subversive activities" in the interests of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation.
"The MP widely disseminated fake news from Russian propaganda regarding events in our country and its foreign policy course, and in October-November 2024, spread distorted information about the command of the Ukrainian defense forces and public sentiments within our state," the statement reads.
As indicated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the MP spread Kremlin narratives on YouTube and Telegram, as well as "amplified" them in broadcasts of Ukrainian and Russian media.
"An independent examination confirmed the facts of the suspect's criminal actions detrimental to the defense capability and information security of Ukraine," the statement continues.
In 2021, he published false information about the absence of a threat of a full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation from Belarus, and also publicly called for changes to Ukraine's borders, informed the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) on Facebook.
Furthermore, the member of parliament promoted the opinion that Ukraine "is no longer capable of winning and should negotiate with Russia on any terms," the agency added.
According to the investigation, between 2020 and 2023, the MP repeatedly visited Belarus, where he communicated with the leadership of that state and "established schemes" for purchasing electricity and ammonium fertilizers for companies under his control at undervalued prices.
"Subsequently, his affiliated commercial structures sold the corresponding resources at artificially inflated prices to gain excessive profits. As the investigation materials indicate, to carry out these transactions, the MP involved straw persons, including non-residents of his controlled firms," the SBU emphasized.
This "cooperation regime" from the Belarusian authorities allowed the deputy to earn €1.5 million in net profit within six months, the SBI reported.
"He managed to transfer only €500,000 to Ukraine. The rest could not be obtained due to the blocking of suspicious transactions by the financial monitoring of one of the European banks. It was also recorded that during this time, the deputy purchased and registered three luxury vehicles totaling $500,000 under the names of relatives," the State Bureau shared.
Based on the evidence obtained, the MP was notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason), facing up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property, the SBU emphasized.
Law enforcement officials do not disclose the name of the MP, but according to sources from "GORDON", it concerns Yevgeny Shevchenko (group "Restoration of Ukraine").
