The court has decided on a preventive measure for MP Shevchenko.

People's Deputy Yevhen Shevchenko has been arrested for 60 days. This measure of restraint was chosen by the court on Friday, November 15.

This was reported by a correspondent from RBK-Ukraine.

According to the court's decision, Shevchenko will spend at least until January 11 in pre-trial detention.

On Thursday, Deputy Shevchenko was informed of suspicion of treason. He faces a penalty of up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

What is known about Shevchenko's case

The People's Deputy, who previously belonged to the "Servant of the People" faction, has been suspected of systematic information subversive activities in favor of Russia. According to the investigation, he spread propaganda fakes about events in Ukraine, the command of the Defense Forces, and the sentiments among Ukrainians.

To disseminate Russian narratives, Shevchenko utilized his own channels on YouTube and Telegram, as well as broadcasts on Ukrainian and hostile media.

Moreover, as established by law enforcement, Shevchenko visited Belarus both before and after the full-scale Russian invasion and established "schemes" for purchasing electricity and ammonia fertilizers at a "discount" for companies under his control.

Who is Deputy Shevchenko

Shevchenko entered the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation as a majoritarian candidate from the "Servant of the People." Furthermore, during the 2019 elections, Shevchenko was a trusted person for then-presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky. However, due to his scandalous activities, he was expelled from the party and the parliamentary faction.

In 2021, the SBU had already visited Shevchenko with searches. At that time, law enforcement was looking for Russian contraband military goods.

Additionally, Shevchenko met with Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko and repeatedly expressed his support for him.

There was also information circulating in the information space that Shevchenko allegedly worked for the Main Intelligence Directorate. In particular, the head of the GUR, Kyrylo Budanov, stated in one of his interviews that the deputy indeed assisted the intelligence in contacting Lukashenko. However, as the intelligence agency later stated, Shevchenko is not an employee of the GUR.

At the beginning of this November, Shevchenko called on the Ukrainian president in his Telegram channel to start negotiations with the Russian dictator and threatened that otherwise, he would be "forced to leave."
