"Why is the law being so blatantly violated? It all comes down to the session scheduled for January 30, which shattered the last chances for Karpiuk to legitimize his market on the floodplain, the River Port residential complex, and more. That's why the prosecutors rushed the case, with gross violations, and didn’t even have time to interrogate me," he wrote.
The mayor describes the situation as a "dirty and cynical crackdown on Ukrainian self-governance."
"It turns out that now any developer can pay several hundred thousand dollars to have a city mayor, for instance, in Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, or Bucha, removed. Behind his back, they can seize control of the city and make illegal decisions that the mayor was obstructing?" – Markushin inquired.
According to the mayor, political persecution against him continues. It seemingly began right after he "started fighting against corrupt officials."
"I was confident that the justice of my state, which we defended in Irpin during the hostilities, would protect me. But it turned out that Ukraine's justice system protects those who bribe it. [...] On Monday, we will start appealing this bought decision in court," Markushin announced.
