It has been reported that the outgoing head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has informed EU member states about relevant intelligence findings ahead of the foreign ministers' meeting scheduled for November 18.
Borrell described the evidence presented as "compelling" and stated that it indicates the supply of lethal weapons from China to Russia.
The diplomat called for consequences for China.
According to Borrell, "it is now necessary to consider the full range of tools" available to the EU, including the establishment of sanctions lists that would lead to a ban on business with Chinese companies, asset freezes, and entry bans into EU countries.
As noted by one source from FAZ, the EU's response greatly depends on how Beijing reacts to the accusations. The discussion on sanctions is still in its early stages, the publication concluded.
