Kellogg has officially been appointed as Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia.

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an order appointing Keta Kellogg as the special representative for Ukraine and the aggressor nation, Russia. This was reported by Voice of America journalist Ekaterina Lisunova on the social media platform X.
Келлог официально назначен спецпредставителем Трампа по вопросам Украины и России.

"We have made significant progress regarding Russia and Ukraine," said the head of the White House.

According to her, Trump did not provide further details.

Before retiring, Kellogg served as the Director of Communications and Computer Technologies at the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 2017, he served as acting advisor to Trump on national security issues.

Trump announced in his social media platform Truth Social on November 27, 2024, that he plans to appoint the 80-year-old retired general and U.S. military veteran Kellogg as his special representative for Ukraine and Russia.

In Trump's view, Kellogg has had an "outstanding military and business career" and possesses experience in national security. Additionally, Kellogg is one of the authors of a plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which includes a ceasefire along the current front line during peace negotiations, with Ukraine participating in talks from a position of strength.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump tasked Kellogg with ending the war in Ukraine within 100 days. Sources for the publication indicate that Kellogg's role as special envoy is the first step in the peace negotiations that Trump intends to personally oversee. However, reaching agreements with the illegitimate president of the aggressor state, Russia's Vladimir Putin, will be much more challenging than Trump promised during his campaign, the article states.

Kellogg's visit to Ukraine has been postponed twice; however, on February 3, 2025, sources in Ukrainian and American political circles told NV that Kellogg plans to come to Ukraine "after February 11."
