The Ukrainian intelligence has caused a major disruption in the operations of one of the largest mobile and internet operators in Russia, "Megafon."
This information is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing sources.
Cyber specialists from the Main Intelligence Directorate executed a large-scale cyberattack on the systems of one of the largest mobile and internet operators in Russia. This refers to the company "Megafon," which is involved in the Russian aggression against Ukraine. As a result of the attack, on January 24, the company's clients experienced issues with mobile connectivity and internet access.
“Since yesterday morning, residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and many central regions of Russia have begun to complain about interruptions in mobile service, internet access, and the poor performance of many mobile services and applications,” the statement says.
The company claimed that their network was supposedly operational but warned about potential issues with service accessibility.
In addition, the intelligence operatives launched cyberattacks against the internet and mobile operators "Yota," "NetByNet," and temporarily restricted access for Russians to services such as Steam, Twitch, and Discord.
Recall that at the beginning of January, cyber specialists from the GUR attacked the Russian company "RegionTransService," which operates the Russian railway.
Additionally, specialists from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense conducted an attack on the Russian oil sector from December 30 to January 1.
