"This is a farce." The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declared the presidential elections in Belarus illegitimate.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry referred to the so-called presidential elections in Belarus as a "farce." This statement was published on January 27 on the official website of Ukraine's foreign affairs agency.
"Это комедия". В украинском МИД объявили президентские выборы в Беларуси нелегитимными.

It was noted that on the previous day, January 26, "elections" took place in Belarus, the results of which "were known in advance since the beginning of the electoral campaign."

"It is difficult to call such elections honest, transparent, and democratic, particularly considering the political repressions in Belarus that deprived voters of any alternative choice, turning the elections into a political show for one person," the statement said. "Elections occurring under conditions of complete administrative control and political persecution, the absence of real political competition, suppression of freedom of speech, and the lack of independent media cannot be legitimate. This is a farce."

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed support for those Belarusians who "continue to fight for democratic changes in their country, its independence, and the preservation of their national dignity and identity."

"The Belarusian people deserve a better future than being held hostage for another five years by a single individual, who not only deprives Belarusians of the prospects for worthy development within the family of European nations, to which they historically belong, but also creates security threats for neighboring countries and the European region as a whole," the Ukrainian ministry emphasized.

The ministry expressed the belief that a democratic and sovereign Belarus, where the people, not just one person, will determine the future, will be "a factor of long-term stability in the region, rather than a participant in Russia's war against Ukraine."
