Former NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg has officially secured a new position.

Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has been appointed as Norway's Minister of Finance. This was reported on the country's government website on February 4th.

In addition to the Ministry of Finance, new leaders have been appointed in the ministries of Defense, Justice, Local Government, Agriculture, Science, Youth, and International Development.

The reshuffle of part of the Norwegian government occurred after representatives of the Center Party left the cabinet last week due to disagreements with the Labour Party over energy policy, notes NRK. The Labour Party will lead until the elections scheduled for the fall.

Journalists refer to Stoltenberg as the only minister who can single-handedly elevate the Labour Party.

"He has a level of personal popularity unmatched by any Norwegian politician," NRK writes.

The Norwegian broadcaster points out that the party has "long dreamed" of Stoltenberg's return but feared that Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre would not welcome such competition, as stated in the article.
