The UK government has extended the visas of Ukrainian refugees currently in the country for an additional 18 months, starting from February 24, 2022.
This information is part of the announcement regarding changes to certain immigration rules, which was published on the UK government's website on Tuesday.
Ukrainians must submit an application to extend their visas; the extension will not be automatic. Applications will be accepted starting February 4, 2025.
Requests for visa extensions should be made 28 days before the visa expires. Applications for extensions can only be submitted while in the UK. During the processing period (8 weeks), leaving the country is not permitted. However, legal status and all rights are maintained during this time.
It is important to note that the time spent in the UK under this scheme does not count towards the 10-year period required for applying for permanent residency.
