The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden plans to approach Congress for additional aid to Ukraine.
This was stated by Biden's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan during a briefing, as reported by the press service of the White House.
Sullivan emphasized that the current president has made it clear that “every dollar Congress has authorized him to spend will be spent on Ukraine’s needs.”
“All these dollars will be allocated by the time he leaves office on January 20. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that in the next two months, the administration will request Congress for additional funds for Ukraine for 2025,” said the advisor.
According to him, the additional aid packages will help Ukraine be “in the strongest possible position for negotiations” to ensure the achievement of set goals.
Sullivan added that the funds for Ukraine will be allocated from the 2024 budget. This will not affect the distribution of funds provided by Congress for other areas.
“The administration fully understands the necessity and logic of seeking additional resources for 2025, as we are doing what Congress has asked us, namely distributing the funds they allocated for 2024,” he concluded.
It is worth noting that, according to media reports, the Biden administration plans to “urgently” send $6 billion in aid to Ukraine before Donald Trump's inauguration.
