Президент Владимир Зеленский отверг возможность проведения демобилизации во время действия режима военного положения.

President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the possibility of carrying out demobilization during the period of martial law.

The statement from the head of state on this matter was made during an interview with Italian journalist Cecilia Sali for the newspaper Il Foglio.

Demobilization in Ukraine: how government plans have changedAs the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion approaches, the issue of military demobilization is becoming increasingly urgent. How government plans and promises have evolved – illustrated in infographics.

Zelensky noted that he understands the public's demand regarding this issue, but martial law entails the mobilization of all people and resources.

“The military has rotations and leaves, but this is certainly not enough. We definitely need to improve the quality of this. And there are questions about how to return home and not go back to the front. Such requests certainly exist. However, this is not currently provided for by law,” he stated.

Zelensky added that it is necessary to exert maximum pressure on Russia to force it to end the war.

“We are defending ourselves today. If tomorrow, for example, half of the army simply goes home, then we should have surrendered on the first day. That’s the reality. Because if half of the people go home tomorrow, Putin will kill us all. Absolutely everyone,” the president emphasized.

It is worth noting that the regime of martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine is in effect until May 9, 2025. Recently, it was reported that the Ministry of Defense has already developed a draft law on demobilization, but now mechanisms need to be worked out for replacing fighters at the front.

Earlier, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk explained why the authorities are not ready to demobilize military personnel under 25 right now.
