Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has been named the best boxer of 2024, despite only having two bouts against Tyson Fury. In both matches, the Ukrainian emerged victorious.
At the The Ring Awards 2024 ceremony in London on January 11, Usyk was nominated for four awards thanks to his two wins over Tyson Fury. The most prestigious nomination was "Fighter of the Year."
In the nominations, Usyk’s opponents included Artur Beterbiev (Canada), Daniel Dubois (UK), Jesse Rodriguez (USA), Junto Nakatani (Japan), and Oscar Collazo (USA). The award ultimately went to the Ukrainian.
In 2024, Usyk participated in only two fights against the same opponent. In May, Oleksandr defeated Tyson Fury by split decision.
With this victory, Usyk collected all four belts in the heavyweight division and became the first undisputed champion in this category in 25 years. The title was previously held by Lennox Lewis.
Usyk defeated Fury for the second time in December of last year. This was a rematch, and the victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by unanimous decision.
Additionally, the 9th round of the first fight between Usyk and Fury was recognized as the best round of 2024 by The Ring magazine.
As a reminder, Ukrposhta has released a stamp in honor of champion boxer Oleksandr Usyk.
