As a result of repatriation efforts, Ukraine has managed to bring back the remains of 563 fallen soldiers to the controlled territory.
This information was shared in a statement by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, published on Telegram.
It is noted that 320 bodies of defenders who died in the Donetsk direction and 89 fallen soldiers from the Bakhmut direction were repatriated. Additionally, 154 bodies were returned from morgues in the aggressor country.
The repatriated bodies and remains will be transported to state institutions where law enforcement and forensic experts will establish their identities.
After identification, the bodies of the defenders will be handed over to their families for a proper burial.
Recall that on October 18, Ukraine returned the bodies of another 501 fallen defenders. The following day, a prisoner exchange took place between Ukraine and Russia, resulting in the return of another 95 Defense Forces fighters home.
Earlier, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets assessed the likelihood of conducting an "all-for-all" exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
