President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk-yeol. The leaders agreed to enhance the exchange of intelligence and expertise in light of the threat from North Korea.
This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to Korea for its support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for financial and humanitarian assistance.
The leaders discussed the involvement of North Korean military personnel in the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“The conclusion is clear – this war is becoming internationalized and extends beyond the two countries. I provided my counterpart with fresh data on the transfer of 3,000 North Korean troops to Russian training grounds near the combat zone, with an expected increase in their numbers to approximately 12,000,” Zelensky reported.
The presidents agreed to enhance the exchange of intelligence and expertise, activate contacts at all levels, including the highest, to develop a strategy for action and a list of countermeasures in response to the escalation, as well as to involve joint partners in cooperation. In the near future, the countries will exchange delegations to coordinate actions.
It is worth noting that the president of South Korea stated he might consider the option of supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine in response to the deployment of North Korean soldiers to Russia.
NATO only yesterday confirmed that North Korean troops had been transferred to the Kursk region of Russia.
