Украина и Польша определили места, где будут искать тела жертвы Волынской трагедии для эксгумации.

Ukraine and Poland have identified locations to search for the remains of the victim of the Volhynia tragedy for exhumation.

This was reported by Polska Agencja Prasowa, citing the words of Andriy Nadzhos, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine for Eurointegration.

The Volhynia Tragedy: A Chronology of the Historical Dispute with PolandThe infographic shows how Ukraine and Poland are attempting to negotiate and reconcile regarding the Volhynia tragedy.

We have taken a very important first step: we exchanged requests. We received requests from the Polish side to conduct work on Ukrainian territory, and the Polish side received requests from us to conduct work in Poland,” he stated.

According to Nadzhos, both parties are analyzing the requests and gathering documents, “in order to make positive decisions with the consent of both sides and publicly comment on the results.”

We understand what the Polish society is concerned about, just as Polish society understands the needs of the Ukrainian side. We recognize that issues of historical memory are important for Polish society, and we do not want to politicize this,” the Deputy Minister of Culture added.

Another official, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that Ukraine has granted permission to search for remains at the site where Polish burials were discovered in 2023. However, details about these locations have not yet been disclosed.

Recall that on Friday, January 10, Ukraine issued the first permits for the exhumation of the remains of the victims of the Volhynia tragedy to the Polish authorities.

Previously, the Polish Foreign Ministry stated that until Ukraine resolves the issue of exhuming the remains of the victims of the Volhynia tragedy, Kyiv “has no reason to dream of joining the EU.”
