The elected President of the United States Donald Trump criticized the permission for Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range American missiles. In his view, this "escalates the war."
He made this statement in an interview with Time magazine, which named him Person of the Year.

When asked if the U.S. would abandon Ukraine when Trump takes office, he replied: "I want to reach an agreement, and the only way to reach an agreement is not to abandon."
Trump reiterated that Putin would never have invaded Ukraine if he had been president. "For many reasons. First of all, they raised the price of oil. When they raised the price of oil, they made it a profitable situation for him; the price of oil should have been lowered. If it had been lowered, you wouldn't have started it (the war – ed.) for purely economic reasons. But when it reached 80, 85, and 90 dollars a barrel. I mean, he made a lot of money," he said.
