The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has denied MP Nestor Shufrych the right to physically participate in sessions of the Verkhovna Rada; however, it has mandated that he be allowed to exercise his parliamentary duties even while in pre-trial detention.
This was reported by MP Oleksii Honcharenko on Telegram on January 11. He also shared a photocopy of the full ruling from the Shevchenkivskyi District Court dated December 24, 2024, having previously referred to an incomplete text.
“To obligate the authorized persons responsible for ensuring appropriate conditions during the detention of the accused Nestor Ivanovych Shufrych, under the applied preventive measure, to take actions to guarantee the rights of the accused Nestor Ivanovych Shufrych regarding the realization of his powers as a people's deputy of Ukraine in the form and manner defined by current legislation,” the ruling states.
At the same time, the court did not grant the request for Shufrych's transport for direct participation in the plenary sessions of the Rada.
Honcharenko added that “according to the regulations, a people's deputy can vote on legislative proposals only in the session hall. This means Shufrych will not be able to vote. However, theoretically, he may participate online, for instance, in Committee meetings.”
It is worth noting that Shufrych is suspected of treason. Almost a year ago, he was notified of suspicion for financing the Rosgvardiya in Crimea. Shufrych is currently in pre-trial detention, with his preventive measure being regularly extended.
