EU ambassadors have, on their second attempt, approved the 15th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which will also affect Russia's shadow fleet.
This was reported by the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council on social media platform X on Wednesday, December 11.
It is reported that the package adds new individuals and entities to the sanctions list. It targets organizations in Russia and third countries that indirectly support the military and technological strengthening of Russia by circumventing export restrictions.
The sanctions also restrict the activities of vessels from third countries that assist Russians in bypassing these limitations.
Recall that on December 6, EU ambassadors met to discuss a new sanctions package against Russia, but were unable to reach an agreement. According to journalists, the adoption of the sanctions was blocked by representatives from two EU member states. They refused to support the new sanctions due to disagreements over the timelines given to private companies for withdrawing investments from Russia.
At the beginning of December, the US exposed a scheme used by Russian elites to circumvent sanctions.
