The U.S. Department of Defense has permitted American military contractors to operate within Ukraine.
This information comes from Reuters.
According to reporters, contractors will now be able to carry out repairs and maintenance on military equipment provided by the U.S. while in Ukraine.
A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated that there would be few contractors involved, and they would be located far from the front lines. Nonetheless, this marks a "significant shift" in U.S. policy aimed at assisting Kyiv.
"The presence of contractors in Ukraine conducting maintenance away from the front lines will help ensure that the equipment provided by the U.S. can be quickly repaired if damaged and maintained as needed," the official said.
It is worth noting that recent media reports indicated that the administration of President Joe Biden plans to urgently transfer $6 billion to Ukraine before Donald Trump's inauguration.
Additionally, it was reported that the U.S. will allocate $800 million for the production of Ukrainian drones.
