The Lviv Regional State Administration has sent a letter to President Volodymyr Zelensky requesting posthumous recognition of Iryna Faryon as a Hero of Ukraine.

This was reported on Facebook by Faryon's daughter, Sofia Semchyshyn.

“For many years of dedicated work in the field of Ukrainian studies, significant contributions to the development of science and education, fruitful socio-political activities, and tireless ideological struggle during the hybrid aggression against Ukraine, we request that Iryna Dmytrivna Faryon be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the State,” the document states.

Recall that last August, a petition on the government website gained the necessary votes for consideration, calling for Faryon to be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal responded in September that this petition would be reviewed at a meeting of the Ministry of Education's awards commission.

Earlier, one of the streets in Lviv was renamed in honor of Faryon.
