Zelensky criticized Fico, stating it's contradictory to buy gas from Moscow while expecting assistance from the Americans.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it is unacceptable to continue purchasing gas from the aggressor country, Russia. He directed this criticism towards Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Zelensky made these remarks during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, with the text and video published on the President's Office website on January 21.
Зеленский раскритиковал Фицо: нельзя закупать газ у Москвы и одновременно рассчитывать на помощь от США.

"Europe must step up and make greater long-term efforts to achieve genuine energy independence. It is not feasible to keep purchasing gas from Moscow while expecting guarantees of security, assistance, and support from the Americans. This is simply wrong. For instance, the Prime Minister of Slovakia [Robert Fico] is not seeking access to American gas, yet he still hopes to benefit from the security umbrella of the United States," emphasizes Zelensky.

The head of state pointed out the need to ensure that no European country relies on a single energy supplier, especially from the Russian Federation.

Zelensky added that "the circumstances are currently in our favor," as the new U.S. President Donald Trump plans to export more energy.
