"We discussed assistance in protecting our people and our cities and villages from Russian strikes, such as the one in Zaporizhzhia. We are very grateful to Italy for supporting our air defense. Today, we also talked about further important collaboration in developing our air shield, cooperation with partners to bring about peace, and joint efforts for reconstruction that can strengthen both of our countries: our economies, job creation for our people, and social development," wrote Zelensky.
The Office of the President of Ukraine informed that addressing Ukraine's defense needs, particularly enhancing air defense, is one of the key topics of the meeting between Ukrainian and Italian politicians.
Zelensky's press service reported that the head of state thanked the Italian government for agreeing on the 10th military aid package that will bolster Ukraine.
"Right now, we want to expedite certain details from this package. We have semi-Italian and semi-French SAMP-T air defense systems. The number of missiles is very important to us; we are counting on it. There is a relevant package of missiles that we are receiving, and there is another package that needs to be finalized so that it can reach us," said the President of Ukraine.
He also expressed hope for Italy's participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"Our teams have started working on the upcoming reconstruction conference. Particularly regarding cultural heritage. Here, we primarily count on Italy. We are also collaborating with UNESCO and will work separately with France. I want Italy to take a significant role in the reconstruction of our historical heritage. They are very professional in this area," emphasized Zelensky.
He and Meloni paid attention to supporting Ukraine on its path to EU membership, as noted in the Office of the President.
