According to the television channel, Trump personally invited the Chinese leader in early November, shortly after the elections, but "it was unclear whether he accepted the invitation."
In addition to Xi Jinping, several other foreign leaders are likely to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new president, the report states.
"World leaders are lining up to meet President Trump," said transition team spokesperson Caroline Livitt.
CBS News notes that foreign ambassadors and other diplomats are typically invited to the inauguration, but according to the U.S. State Department, no foreign leader has ever attended the power transfer ceremony at the White House since 1874.
