The new Syrian authorities are requesting Moscow to hand over Assad, who fled to Russia, according to media reports.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, the leader of the factions that have taken control in Syria, is requesting that the Russian aggressor government hand over the ousted former president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, who has fled to Russia. This was reported by The Times of Israel on January 29, citing its own sources.

Additionally, according to the publication, Damascus is expecting Moscow to hand over Assad's close aides.

This topic was reportedly discussed during negotiations in the Syrian capital, where a Russian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov arrived.

The Times of Israel points out that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on whether such a demand was made. At the same time, Peskov stated that "Russia is working on establishing dialogue" with the new Syrian administration, attempting to "secure the future" of its military bases in the Middle Eastern country, the publication reports.

Furthermore, information regarding the demand for Assad's extradition was shared on January 29 by the agency Reuters. It notes, citing an unnamed source, that "the Russians are not ready to acknowledge mistakes," and the only agreement reached was to "continue discussions."
