Following the meeting, the leaders of the countries emphasized the importance of providing strong security guarantees as the foundation for a potential ceasefire. In particular, the possibility of involving mechanisms from the North Atlantic Treaty is being considered as one of the security guarantees and for strengthening the Ukrainian army.
"The start of the ceasefire should begin with the exchange of prisoners and the return of children. This is a step that will demonstrate Russia's genuine intention for peace," the Office of the President reported.
The leaders also discussed the significance of the United States' role in ensuring adequate support and collaboration aimed at ending the war and maintaining transatlantic unity.
"The development of a specific plan based on proposals from France and the United Kingdom will continue. The next meeting of European leaders will take place soon, where a new enhanced defense plan for Europe will be presented," the release states.
