The agency spoke with a total of five individuals who were informed about the meeting. According to four of them, Zelensky, Trump, and French President Emmanuel Macron had a 35-minute conversation without advisors. The leaders did not discuss specific details of any vision for the world, but Trump reiterated his desire for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations to swiftly end the war.
Trump behaved in a friendly, respectful, and open manner, listening to his counterparts, said one source. During the meeting, some key points were raised – for instance, it was mentioned that the world needs guarantees, according to a source in the office of the President of Ukraine. Trump was informed that a mere ceasefire is insufficient, as the illegitimate President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, may violate it again, as he has done previously. When asked how this was perceived, the source replied that Trump "is thinking about all the details."
It was noted that Macron and Zelensky were "on the same page," but they tried not to appear as if they were cornering Trump. The presidents coherently presented their view of the situation, emphasizing that without U.S. support, it would be very difficult for Kyiv. Additionally, Macron and Zelensky explained to Trump that Putin in 2024 is not the same as he was in 2017 when the then-elected U.S. president communicated with him while in the White House.
