The Kremlin aims to establish joint governing bodies with Belarus following the conclusion of the war, according to media reports.

As a potential new agenda following the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Kremlin is contemplating a deeper union between Russia and Belarus. This was reported in a January 9 article by the publication "Meduza," which cites multiple sources within the government.
После окончания войны Кремль планирует создать совместные органы власти с Беларусью, согласно сообщениям СМИ.

"The new agenda" is expected to bring Russians back to a peaceful life, say sources from "Meduza."

"Conditionally, some sort of general governing bodies. They could even be elected, run a campaign, demonstrate new records. The unification of the territories that fell apart in the 1980s and 1990s, a union of republics. This event could uncover some positivity; it's clear how to market it," explained a source close to the Kremlin.

According to him, there are doubts about the realism of such a scenario, as it "entirely depends" on the illegitimate President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, who "clearly wants to remain the full-fledged ruler."

The publication claims that many members of the "elite" in Russia are disappointed that the war did not end in 2024.

Journalists' sources agree that hopes for a "quick peace" and the easing of anti-Russian sanctions have "faded" following the start of the military operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region of Russia in August 2024.
