The European Commission aims to entirely halt Russian gas imports and is currently formulating a strategy to achieve this goal.
The European Commission is formulating a strategy to eliminate all Russian fossil fuels from the European market; however, gas deliveries to Europe are still ongoing, and Brussels aims to put a stop to this. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Ikonen during a press briefing in Brussels, as reported by Interfax on January 20.

As Ikonen stated, the EU has already taken significant steps "to eliminate any Russian fossil fuels," and "has reduced all Russian coal imports, a large portion of Russian oil imports, and more than two-thirds of Russian gas."
According to her, despite these substantial achievements, Russian gas is still present in the EU market, and this is one of the issues that "will be addressed in the roadmap to be presented in the coming weeks."
