The television channel provided a list of posts by Zelensky on the social network X and speeches in which he expressed gratitude. There were 33 such instances, excluding the message Zelensky made after leaving the White House on February 28. Additionally, CNN did not account for numerous internal mentions of the president in Ukrainian.
Among the list is Zelensky's address to the U.S. Congress on December 21, 2022, where he stated: "I want to thank you, all of you. I thank every American family that cherishes the warmth of their home and wishes the same warmth for others. I thank President Biden and both parties in the Senate and the House of Representatives for your invaluable assistance. I thank your cities and your citizens who supported Ukraine this year, who welcomed our Ukrainians, our people, who waved our national flags, who acted to help us. Thank you all, from everyone who is currently on the front lines, from everyone who is waiting for victory."
Zelensky expressed gratitude to the U.S. during meetings with former President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as in speeches at several American institutions.
The television channel conducted this count after President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting in the Oval Office that he was not grateful enough.
Trump, like Vance, may have been referring to Zelensky's stance towards Trump personally, according to the publication. Meanwhile, CNN emphasizes that Zelensky has repeatedly thanked the United States since Russia began its full-scale invasion in February 2022, expressing gratitude to Trump and Biden, members of Congress from both parties, American defense companies and their employees, as well as the American people.
